The 6th Annual Jazz 88.3 FM Summer Jazz Workshop Presented by House of Blues
July 11 - July 16
July 25 - July 30
The 6th Annual Summer Jazz Workshop, in partnership with San Diego’s House of Blues® and Jazz 88.3 provides the platform for music students, ages 12-18, to study with some of San Diego’s most gifted professional jazz musicians/teachers in an environment designed to nurture their growth as musicians, both technically and creatively. This is a hands-on Workshop where students learn performance skills, improvisation, jazz theory and jazz history, yet with an emphasis on playing music. Young musicians perform in a professional atmosphere following the final class on Saturday at the House of Blues®. The Workshop is open to beginning through advanced skill levels. All students must be able to sight-read music and have a minimum of one year experience on their instrument of choice. Two one-week sessions will be held at the Thiemann Music Center on Parker’s Linda Vista campus. This is the ideal venue for students to grow musically as they express themselves through the art of jazz improvisation. A lunch is provided for all workshop participants and is included in the tuition fee. (Proper placement will be determined by either an electronically-submitted or in-person audition prior to the start of each Session.)
Session I: Middle School students 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (M-Sat)
Session II: High School students 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (M-Sat)
Students will perform for parents and others at the House of Blues® on the Saturday following each weekly session.
