The 2014 Summer Jazz Workshop
Week 1 (Middle School): July 14 - July 19
Week 2 (Upper School): July 21 - July 26
The 4th Annual Summer Jazz Workshop, in partnership with San Diego’s House of Blues® and Jazz 88.3, provides a unique opportunity for middle and high school age students to study with some of San Diego's most gifted professional jazz musicians/teachers in an environment designed to nurture their growth as musicians, both technically and creatively. This is a hands-on Workshop where students learn performance skills, improvisation, jazz theory and history, with the emphasis on playing music!
Two one-week sessions will be held at Francis Parker School's Thiemann Music Center, a state-of-the-art facility featuring dedicated classrooms and practice studios. This is the perfect venue for students to grow musically as they learn to express themselves through the art of jazz improvisation. Each session culminates with the opportunity for the students to perform at one of San Diego's premier concert venues, the House of Blues®. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced students are welcome at each session.
The Summer Jazz Workshop has hosted the Grammy nominated jazz pianist Eldar Djangirov in both 2012 and 2013 where he performed and gave a clinic while working with our jazz combos. The New York Times described the New York based pianist as "a blend of musical intelligence, organizational savvy, enthusiasm and prowess that was all the more impressive for seeming so casual... an ebullient impressionist." For more information and to hear his music, you can go to eldarmusic.com.
9:00am – 3:00pm (Monday-Friday)
Students will perform for parents and others at the House of Blues® on the Saturday following each weekly session.
