Lower School E-News Blog

Dear Parents:

Colonial Day has been a part of the Lower School program for many years, and our parents, teachers and fifth-graders have always enjoyed the events associated with it. This year was no different, as our oldest students travelled back through time to experience life in the 1600's.  They learned about games, medicine, music, art, food and even manners appropriate to the time period, all of them (and many of their parents and teachers) dressed in period clothing.  The day was an incredible success and some great lessons were learned.

Most apparent, however, was the great collaboration so evident in the hours of planning, preparing and executing such a superb event.  Parents, students and teachers were all so focused on the abundant learning opportunities, that they all seemed transported to and absorbed in that nascent time in our country's past.  It was remarkable.

This same kind of complete engagement and authentic learning is a major goal here at the Lower School for every lesson, and we're determined to be ever more effective in achieving it.

Gently-used Clothing Sale

The gently-used clothing sale will be held this Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Scripps Lecture Hall.

 Admissions Open House

Our second Lower School admissions open house for prospective students and their families will take place this Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m.

 Dress-down and BBQ

This Friday is a dress-down day, and there will also be a bbq.

Second-grade Parent Mixer

This Friday, the second-grade parent mixer will be held in the Scripps Lecture Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Join

Francis Parker Orchestra

The first of Francis Parker's Orchestra's two annual concerts is next Wednesday, January 18, at 7:00 PM in Crivello Hall.  Come on out and hear these fabulous musicians.

Admissions Testing

This coming Saturday, our second Lower School admissions testing will take place for prospective JK-4th graders.
