Dear Parents:
This week marks an important milestone for us as we tiptoe a bit further into the technological world. E-readers will now be allowed at the Lower School (though we're holding off for now on i-pads brought from home) just as we roll out our new electronic book check-out system. This is an exciting move for us for many reasons, not the least of which is the motivation this might provide for previously reluctant readers. We're also very curious to see how well our students can manage these electronic tools and the responsibility to follow a few simple rules.
The Monday envelopes will include log-in information for the students as well as our brand new e-reader policy (see below in "Thoughts to Ponder"). If you'll be allowing your children to use e-readers at school, you'll need to sign the policy and return it to your child's teacher.
Many thanks to Laurie Brae, our librarian, for the inspiration and the Lower School teachers for fast tracking their approval of this program. We think it will be a wonderful resource.
Sincerely,
Bob Gillingham
Dress-down Day and BBQ
This Friday is a dress-down day and bbq. Join us in the courtyard during your child's regular lunch time.
SK-Senior Buddies
The senior kindergarteners travel to the Upper School this Friday to have a picnic with their senior buddies. This event has become a wonderful school tradition and a favorite activity for both age levels.
Fourth-Grade Business Sale
The fourth-grade business sale will be held this Friday beginning at 1:45 p.m. in the Szekely Auditorium. This annual event involves students in all aspects of creating a business plan, from idea to production to sale. Come on by if you'd like to see the busiest market around, and your purchases will support a charity selected by our 4th graders.
Girls' Science
Girls Science will be held in Mrs. Imbimbo's science lab on Thursday from 3:30-4:15 p.m. for girls in 3rd-5th grade.

E‐Reader Policy
This year, we are allowing students to use electronic readers (e‐readers)* on campus. While we are excited that students are using new technology to nurture their love of reading, we do have some rules for the appropriate use of these devices.
* No i-pads until we assess the level of care for much less expensive e-readers.
Rules for using e-readers:
Francis Parker School is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged e‐readers. If students bring e‐readers on campus, it is their responsibility to care for them.
All e‐readers must be labeled with the student’s first and last name.
Each student is responsible for his/her own e‐reader and is not allowed to lend it to another student while on campus.
E‐readers can be used in class before, during or after school only when the teacher gives the student permission. They may also be used before, during or after school in the library with the librarian’s permission. For now, they will not be allowed on the playground.
E‐readers are to be used for reading school-related material or approved literature only.
Any student found to be using his/her e‐reader for internet access during class will lose his/her privileges. This means that books must be downloaded off campus, prior to coming to school.
Material downloaded by each student must be monitored by his/her parents.
E‐readers may not be used on campus for audio books, unless previously approved.
The privilege to use an e‐reader can be revoked at any time.
E‐reading devices must be approved by the teacher.
