News for the Week of May 7

Dear Upper School Parents,

It has been a very successful academic season for our students. While many are doing their strongest work in the class, there are quite a few students who are competing on the local and national level and demonstrating great success along the way as evidenced by the below updates:

California State History Day Results 2012( Coached by Cherie Redelings and Karen Marshall) On April 26th – 29th, 2012, forty-one Francis Parker students joined over 900 students from throughout California to compete at the State History Day competition in Riverside. Grand Concours French Results (Coached by Irena Dorfman)

"This challenging National Exam with more than 100,000 participants required a lot of effort and months of preparation. Now we can be very proud of the results. Our kids competed in the levels 2,3,4, and 5.

In level 2A, 24,165 students  took the exam and our own Fernando Guinto got 1st national and 1st regional gold medal!  Fernando got 100%, which means that he correctly responded to every single question.  We also have national silver medal winers: Erik Riis and Eliza Kiy; and national bronze medal winners -- Peter Grey, Kevin Rodin, Emma Sheean, and Jona Plevin.

In level 3, we have several national winners as well: Patricia Fernandez, Emily Dorsey, Olivia Gosh got silver medals; Roxane Roncarolo De Vrie, Jasmine Anklesaria, Luis -Miguel Espinosa Da Silva, Inigo Sanchez, Carolina Martinez, Aliza Adler, and Alejandra Azcarraga got bronze medals.

In level 4 Kasey Hutcheson, Raphael Cantor, Noah Gamboa and Solia Yaley got national bronze medals and placed in the top 4 places in the region. Kyra Ghosh and Alexandra Smallwood was placed 7th regional,Christine Buckley-9th regional and Anne Sager -10th regional.

In level 5 Emily Bohl and Carson Scott got national silver medals and 1st regional; Carolyn Hansen got a bronze medal and 2nd regional; Anna Rudakov got a bronze medal and 4th regional. Zack Emge and Daphne Yang placed 9th regional; Kristen Stipanov placed 10th regional.

Given these wonderful results, we have every reason to celebrate such a success. None of the schools in our region had as many winners as we do. I'm very proud of my students!"

Also, Phil Fickling took his elective class to compete in a Shakespeare competion in Balboa Park. The students gave a spirited performance from Henry V  last weekend and well represented Parker.

See you at the Gala,

Paul Barsky
