MARY SAYS:

OMG! It’s the third trimester!

Well here we are in March and I’m at a loss as to where all the time has gone. It seems like it was just yesterday that I was looking forward to all that the year had in store. Now we’re here with many activities and events behind us. At our next meeting we will vote on our Board of Directors for the 2015-2016 school year and begin the planning process for another great year at Parker. Don’t despair though because the year is not over yet!

Our Gala is coming and I continue to be amazed by the hard work being put in by our Gala Co-chairs, Gayle Nuffer and Randie Lettington along with their committee. This event will be fun, elegant, and will raise money for tuition assistance and professional development. And if you didn’t already know, you have a variety of options for how you can be involved. From donating and/or bidding on Gala auction items online to attending the Gala and dancing the night away, I promise that there’s something for everyone. We need you to help us make this our best Gala yet. Thank you in advance for your support and enthusiasm!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - 11th GRADE FACULTY APPRECIATION BREAKFAST: Thursday, March 26, Faculty Lounge, Linda Vista Campus

The Class of 2016 parents are honored to host the Faculty Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday, March 26. Please sign up on the Junior Class Faculty Breakfast Volunteer sign-up sheet. If you have questions, please contact your grade reps Sarah Stanton or Christie Golemb directly. This is a great way to show teachers and staff that junior class cares!  

AP EXAMS: The 2015 AP Exams are May 4-8 and May 11-15. The fee per AP exam is $99. This year, students will register for AP exams online using a service called Total Registration. A link to register for exams will be on the Francis Parker School website. Additionally, families will receive an email with information and instructions about how, where and when to register. Online exam registration will begin on Mon, Mar 16, 2015 at 8:00 AM and end on Sat. Mar 28, 2015 at 11:59 PM. Registrations and payments made after Mon, Mar 23, 2015 will incur a $15 late fee. Please contact Denise Flynn, dflynn@francisparker.org, for questions regarding this year's AP Exam registration process.

Week of March 15, 2015

MARY SAYS:

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who have supported our Gala by either hosting or attending wine parties. Your participation has a direct impact on the success of our Gala, which will in turn have an impact on scholarships and programs at Parker. While I think that this is all great, I am equally happy that we as parents at Parker have an opportunity to meet and get to know each other better. Promoting fellowship in our community is an important part of the mission of the Parents Association and I’m always happy to see us find ways to support our school, fulfill our mission and enjoy each other’s company in the process. So…let’s keep this going! I look forward to seeing you!

Week of March 8, 2015

MARY SAYS:

I’d like to thank all the parents who attended our General Meeting last Monday. Our topic was “Making Time to Care for Ourselves While Taking Care of Everything/Everyone Else”.  Our speakers, Kali Korogy and Leanna Tankersley were both engaging and persuasive. They gave us actual tools for helping ourselves to slow things down and recognize the areas in our lives that we actually have control over. Here are some of the ideas that stuck with me. I hope that you will find them helpful and inspiring:

-Remember that the one thing we can control is how we treat ourselves.

-We should be companions to ourselves instead of critics.

-Remember that when all seems lost, we can always begin again.

-We should nurture ourselves as a mother would a child.

-Breathe. The act of breathing deliberately can have a positive impact on our minds, bodies and souls.

Week of March 1, 2015

MARY SAYS:

It’s March, spring is almost here, and our Gala season has begun! If you haven’t already marked your calendars, please save April 25, 2015! As I mentioned before, there are so many ways to get involved and fellowship in support of our 2015 Gala. You can buy your Gala tickets (coming soon!), purchase an auction item, attend a wine party and even join the Gala committee! Please check out our GALA WEBSITE for details and information.

Speaking of great opportunities, our Lower School Class Creations will be up for auction this Friday, March 6! In conjunction will the Lower School Spring Concert, parents will have the opportunity to bid for and purchase beautiful pieces of original artwork created by their children and their classmates. The art will be displayed in the Lower School Courtyard and the auction will begin at 11:30am. The proceeds from the auction will go directly to student financial assistance and faculty development so it’s a win-win!

LOWER SCHOOL CLASS CREATION GALA AUCTION: Friday, March 6, During the Spring Concert

Auction Opens at 11:30am, Closes 20 minutes after the end of the concert

It’s that time of year again…when parents get a chance to own a beautiful piece of artwork, made by their child and his classmates reflecting their Parker year!  We’re trying something a little different with the auction this year by showcasing it at the Spring Concert this Friday, March 6th.  We will have your child’s Class Creation displayed around the courtyard and hope that you will stop to take a look and bid on their artistic creations!  All of the proceeds from the sale of the Class Creations will support current-use needs for student financial assistance, and faculty development.

Welcome back!

Whether you and your students were on the slopes, in faraway lands or enjoying a quality staycation, I hope that your February Break was both enjoyable and relaxing. I can’t believe it’s almost March, but as usual, we have much to look forward to. Our Gala preparations are in full swing and the wine parties are a great opportunity for us to support the Gala in ways that allow us to fellowship and get to know each other better. I encourage you all to attend look forward to seeing you there!

Also, please join us at our Parents Association General Meeting on Monday, March 2nd in the Szekely auditorium directly after flagraising. Our Parent Ed topic will be “Making Time to Care for Ourselves While Taking Care of Everything/Everyone Else”. Please keep an eye out for our General Meeting eblast for more details. Please join us!
