Parents @ Parker

Week of October 19, 2014

Mary Says:

Parker’s admission season has begun and the school will be hosting Open Houses in the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools during the month of November.  As a Parker Parent, I find myself regularly talking to family, friends and acquaintances about the reasons we chose Parker and the wonderful journey that it has been so far. Now is a great time for all of us to share our stories and encourage interested families to ask us questions, attend an Open House, or reach out to our Admissions staff. It’s a great time to be at Parker and I think we all have it in us to be great ambassadors!

By the time you read this, Homecoming will have come and gone. It has been so exciting this week to see booths going up, floats being built and the Middle School gym being transformed. I’m excited to cheer on our football team, eat some good food and enjoy great company.

Also, don’t forget that our first Gala Meeting is on Friday, October 24 at 8:00am in the Boardroom next to the cafeteria on the Linda Vista Campus. Working on the Gala Committee is a great way to get involved and meet new people so come join us!

UPCOMING PARENT OPPORTUNITIES

Week of October 12, 2014

MARY SAYS:

I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the parents who attended our second Parents Association General Meeting this past Monday. We had a great presentation from our division heads and parents were able to ask questions afterward.  I felt informed and found myself amazed at the level of thought, preparation and innovation that Parker staff and faculty put into educating our children.  What I appreciated most about the presentation was that each division head reminded us that they are accessible to us. If we as parents have concerns or questions about what is happening with the education of our children, we have but to ask. Dr. G, Mr. Lang or Mr. Barsky will happily take the time to either answer our questions or refer us to the person who can. While I do understand that this journey belongs to our children, it is comforting to know that even from the sidelines, we as parents have access to the answers we need.

This next week is Spirit Week and I’d like to throw out one last reminder for all you parents who still want to get involved to go to the Homecoming webpage and sign up!

It’s going to be a great week!

Week of October 5, 2014

MARY SAYS:

We’ve barely begun the month of October and it’s already a busy one. We will all be engaged in Parent Dinners, College Fairs, Town Hall Meetings as well as Homecoming and Halloween. And that’s just to name a few! I’m so excited that we are well into another great year at Parker. All I ask is that you remember to join us at our PA General Meetings throughout the year. At our October 6 meeting we will be learning more about all the latest things that are happening at the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools from Dr. G, Mr. Lang and Mr. Barsky respectively.  This is a great way for us all to get a better understanding of what our students are learning and experiencing at Parker.

I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Week of September 28, 2014

MARY SAYS:

By now we should all have attended our respective back to school nights and I would like to say a sincere thank you to the Francis Parker faculty! I find myself increasingly impressed by their professionalism and dedication. I had the sense that each of my son’s teachers actually enjoyed their students and nurtured a true passion for the subjects they teach. In my career, I work with many high school students from schools all over San Diego and I can clearly see how fortunate our students are to have access to such a high caliber of teaching and learning both inside and outside of the classroom. As parents, it is our job to support our students as they try to find their own way on this beautiful journey. We should encourage them to take full advantage of all that an education at Parker has to offer and provide them with the tools they’ll need to do so.  Whether you are at the Lower School, Middle School or Upper School, I hope that your students are enjoying their time in the classroom.

Have a great week!

Also, please note that our next Parent Association General Meeting will be on Monday, October 6 at 8:45am in the Szekely Auditorium.

MARY SAYS:

I can’t believe that we are one month away from Homecoming! If you don’t already have Saturday, October 18 on your calendar, now is the time to get it on there! I don’t know of any other Parker event that brings parents, grandparents, alumni, students, staff and faculty together the way that Parker Homecoming does. To me, it feels like a huge family reunion where everyone is united in their goal to have fun and root for our phenomenal football team.  And for those of you who are looking for ways to volunteer and get involved, it gets even better! In our Parents @ Parker newsletter (below) and on our Parents @ Homecoming website, you will find everything you need to know in order to volunteer and help out in ways that work for you. It sounds like a win-win to me. I can’t wait! Go Lancers!

Also, please note that our next Parent Association General Meeting will be on Monday, October 6 at 8:45am in the Szekely Auditorium.
