New Direction for Parker Fundraising
October 28, 2011
To the Francis Parker School Family,
At the recent October meeting of the Parker Board of Trustees, the Board approved unanimously a marked shift in the development strategy of the School: Moving forward, all of our annual fundraising efforts will be in support of endowment.
Traditionally, Parker – like many independent schools – has asked parents, alumni and friends to support the operating budget through the Annual Fund (also known as the Parker Fund.) In addition, we periodically sought support for other initiatives, including building campaigns, targeted endowments and a variety of other special programs. Frankly, the opportunity to support the School in so many different ways created a lack of clarity for many. We believe this new approach simplifies the giving process.
On the eve of our centennial year, we are setting a new standard for philanthropy among independent schools. We believe that we have an opportunity with this restructured approach to create a new and more sustainable financial model – one that will make us far less dependent on tuition.
With a renewed focus on building our endowment, we will have greater opportunities to:
- hire and retain excellent teachers
- recruit and support talented and deserving students through increased financial aid
- launch new programs that integrate seamlessly with our mission
We will continue to ask every member of the extended Parker family to make a financial contribution to the School on an annual basis; we hope that you will invest in our future with generosity and with enthusiasm. Together, we will build an endowment that sustains all that is special and unique to Parker for generations to come.
