Through the end of April, the College Counseling Office has three very informative programs lined up for juniors and their parents. We hope to see you at these events:
National College Fair
San Diego Convention Center
Thursday, April 26 6:00 - 8:30pm
Nearly 250 colleges are scheduled to participate in our area's National College Fair. Come prepared with questions for the admission counselors who will be on hand. A list of sample questions appropriate to ask admission representatives is available through your student's Naviance program in the Document Library section. Have your junior register for the fair in advance at www.nacacnet.org/ncfstudent. Pre-registration for the fair makes it easier for the students to be included on the mailing lists of schools that interest them.
Coastline Case Studies Program (Only for Juniors and their Parents)
La Jolla Country Day School
Monday, April 30 - Arrive at 6:00pm
Did you ever wonder how a student's college application is reviewed? What stands out in a negative or positive way? Our fifth annual Coastline Case Studies program will address those questions and more. This year's event will take place at La Jolla Country Day School. (Parker played host to this highly successful program for the past two years). Over 80 college admission counselors representing schools from across the country will be on hand for this year's program. These experienced admission professionals will walk the student and parent paricipants through a review of four mock college applications so that everyone can better appreciate how candidates are evaluated. We have uploaded the mock student files into Parker's Naviance system. From the Naviance home page click on the Document Library and then the Coastline Case Studies folder in order to review files. In preparation for this event we need all student and parent participants to be familiar with these mock candidates. If you do not have access to the Naviance program, please contact the College Counseling Office for directions. The event is a must for juniors and their parents.
State of College Admissions
Francis Parker School, Linda Vista Campus
Tuesday, May 1 10:00 - 11:00am
The morning after the Coastline Case Studies program we invite all Upper School parents to participate in a panel discussion concerning trends in college admissions. Experienced admission counselors from Eckerd College, Princeton University, USC and the University of Virginia will share their insights on the increasingly competitive landscape facing today's college-bound students. Come prepared with your questions and learn from our colleagues who have literally seen it all.
If you have questions concerning any of these upcoming events or anything involving the college search, please do not hesitate to contact us in the College Counseling Office.
