Dear Parker Parents,

Here are the nuts and bolts for kicking off the 2012 - 13 School year. These items will be updated regularly in the weeks leading up to the official start of school on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Be sure to check this page on a regular basis.

7th Grade Student Lunch Thursday, August 30, Noon - 1:00pm, Middle School Courtyard, Linda Vista campus (all 7th grade students, both new and returning)

7th Grade Camp Orientation, Thursday, August 30, 1:00 - 2:00pm J. Crivello Hall, Linda Vista campus. (All 7th grade students, both new and returning.)

Junior Kindergarten Meet and Greet, Thursday, August 30, 3:30 - 4:30pm, Gooding Family Courtyard, Mission Hills campus. (This courtyard is just outside the Considine Library).

9th Grade Student Orientation--new Parker students, Thursday, August 30, 5:30 - 7:45pm, Nicholas Commons, Linda Vista campus. (We ask students new to Parker to arrive 15 minutes earlier in order to take care of some details that pertain to this group).

New Family Parent Portal Login Information

Individual parent usernames and passwords were emailed to all parents on Wednesday, August 1. This enables you to login to the Parent Portal on the website and access the online Family Directory. If you did not receive this email, kindly let us know at webmaster@francisparker.org. If you're new to the website, or you'd like a brief refresher, you can watch this short video.

New Parent Dinner

This dinner is for all new, first-time Parker parents. Plan to join us for an enjoyable evening where you can get to know your fellow new Parker parents, and hear from the Head of School. Parents only, please. Wednesday, September 12, 6:00pm, Gooding Family Courtyard, Mission Hills campus (4201 Randolph Street, San Diego 92103). The Gooding Courtyard is just outside the Considine Library.

DynaCal School Calendar

Part of the Back to School process is getting your family calendar synched with the School's calendar.

With our DynaCal online calendar, you can see the entire school year and sign up for My DynaCal to receive e-mail and text message alerts when event times or locations change, or if an event is postponed or cancelled.

If you prefer not to sign up for My DynaCal, you can simply use the menu on the left-hand side of the screen to view only the events in your child's school division. The default setting on DynaCal is "All Parker Events," but there are dozens of options to choose to narrow down what you have to see. For example, if you only want to see Middle School events, simply click on "Middle School" in the left-hand menu, and only the Middle School events will show on the calendar.

To get to My DynaCal, look for the "My DynaCal" link in the left-hand menu, and follow the prompts to either set up your account or edit your account.

If you signed up for My DynaCal last year, you'll want to update your settings for the new school year. For example, if your child was a 7th grader last year, you'll want to change your settings to receive 8th grade information this year.

Voucher codes and procedural information for students receiving financial aid were sent via e-mail in July. If you have not received this information or have misplaced it, please contact Erin Aiston at eaiston@francisparker.org or Tera Gigax at tgigax@francisparker.org.

Upper School supplies will be determined by individual teachers, who will communicate these expectations directly with their students during the first week of classes.

Physicals & Ethics Forms Required
Students may not participate--even in a practice session--without a physical form completed and signed by their physican on file in the Athletic Office, as well as a signed copy of the CIF Ethics Form on file.

Freshman Fall Athletes
For those freshmen who did not have an opportunity to attend the initial meeting last Wednesday, a make-up meeting has been set for Wednesday, August 15, 8:30-10:00am in J. Crivello Hall, students only please. The purpose of the meeting is to help our student-athletes from the class of 2016 get off to a successful start in their Upper School experience.

Upper School Newsblog

  • Download Guidelines, Information and Packing lists for 10th and 12th grade retreats. (Sophomores: September 4 - 5; Seniors: September 1 - 2).

  • Complete the Class of 2013 Diploma Form (parents of seniors need to submit by September 30).

Logging in to Parent Portal and NetClassroom

The username and password is different between the Parent Portal and NetClassroom systems because the Parent Portal is based on the individual parent's identity and access, and NetClassroom is based upon the individual student identity.

Students are also expected to access NetClassroom in Middle and Upper School; in addition, if you have more than one student at Parker, each student's NetClassroom records are a separate username and login.

If you need to retrieve your child's NetClassroom login information,

  • For Middle School accounts, contact Debbie Peterson in the Middle School Office (858-569-7900, ext. 4122, or dpeterson@francisparker.org) for Middle School student accounts.
  • For Upper School student NetClassroom accounts, contact either Laura Southworth (858-569-7900, ext. 4113, lsouthworth@francisparker.org) or Diane Bergel (858-569-7900, ext. 4117, dbergel@francisparker.org).

New students and their families will receive their login information once classes begin in September.

If you've forgotten your username/password for the Parent Portal, the username is the primary email address you have on file with us. Just below the boxes where you enter your username and password is a link to retrieve the password if you've forgotten or misplaced it. Simply click on that link, and the system will email your password to you.

Tdap Shots for Start of School Grades 7 - 12

Students entering grades 7 - 12 in fall 2012 are required by State law to have proof of a Tdap booster shot (Pertussis--Whooping Cough--immunization) before starting school in September.

If you submitted this to Parker last year, you are covered for this year. (NOTE: For Upper School fall athletes, that record must be submitted before they may begin August sports practices).

Families of students going in to grades 7 and 8 may submit the immunization record to Mrs. Debbie Peterson in the Middle School office; grade 9 - 12 should submit the record to Ms. Laura Southworth in the Upper School office.
