Parker Standardized Test Prep Program
Parker has several test prep opportunities to meet the needs of Parker students preparing for PSAT/SAT/ACT. Class meeting times will be scheduled by Lorna Kocian to accommodate the majority of students registering. There are opportunities for flexible groups and schedules. Please share your preferences on your registration form or contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Below you will find the description of the various programs. Prepare now for fall test dates. Class sizes are limited. All sessions are held in the Parker Learning Center on the second floor of the Peters Family Building.

Test Prep AT-A-GLANCE
Parker SPRING 2014 Classes
ACT Reading - $110Wednesday, Mar. 5, 2:30 - 4:30 pm
Reading tips and strategies will be provided. Students will complete timed practice passages and grade their work. Difficult questions will be explained.ACT Science/Math Combo - $80Monday, Mar. 10, 9:30 - 11:00 am
The students will receive tips, strategies, and vocabulary and will practice Science passages. Common math problems will be explained in the second half. Students will be expected to complete timed test segments for practice.ACT English - $110Wednesday, Mar. 12, 2:30 - 4:30 pm

The exam will be administered on Saturday. Scores will be returned on Sunday. Students will learn how to solve problems they missed on Sunday. The ACT given will be different from the one given on March 15th

Final reminders on each section of the test will be provided.
SAT Final Review - $110Thursday, Mar. 6, 2:30 - 4:30 pm
All sections of the SAT will be reviewed. Final reminders will be provided, from grammar rules and math concepts to strategies to minimize test anxiety. SAT Total Math - $110Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2:30 - 4:30 pm
Math equations and concepts will be reviewed, and students will see many common problems explained. Please feel free to bring math questions from testing completed at home. SAT Writing Boot Camp - $165Saturday, Mar. 29, 1 - 4 pm

The Zinger Math workbook will be provided. We will work through the entire workbook, which contains the most common difficult math questions on the SAT. This class is geared for advanced students already scoring 570 or above on the math portion of the test. SAT Vocabulary Word Roots - $110Thursday, Apr. 17, 1 - 3 pm
A handout providing definitions of the most common SAT vocabulary word roots will be provided, and many common SAT words will be discussed. The session will be dynamic, with students helping to create fun ways to remember difficult words. Real SAT vocabulary questions will be explained as well.More SAT Practice - $110Wednesday, Apr. 23, 2:30 - 4:30 pm
Students will complete timed practice passages and problems. Answers and explanations will be provided. Please feel free to bring questions from testing completed at home. Take A Real SAT - $240Saturday, Apr. 26, 8 am - Noon and Sunday, Apr. 27, 9 am - Noon
The exam will be administered on Saturday. Scores will be returned on Sunday. Students will learn how to solve problems/questions they missed on Sunday. The SAT given will be one that students have not seen previously. Therefore, students are welcome to try both the classes on April 12-13 and April 26-27 for added practice.
Subject Test Preparation
Literature SAT Subject Test Overview Part 1 - $110Saturday, Mar. 29, 4 - 6 pm
Get valuable practice analyzing passages on a real Literature Subject Test. Receive literature terminology and test strategies.Math Level 2 SAT Subject Test Boot Camp - $140Sunday, Mar. 30, 1 - 3:30 pm
Receive an eight-page equation sheet and review a full test. A second test will be given for homework if students wish to attend the follow-up section on April 13th.Take a Real Biology SAT Subject Test - $140Saturday, Apr. 12, 2 - 4:30 pm
A short explanation of the “E” and “M” options will be provided. The exam will be administered in the first hour. Students will receive results and hear difficult questions explained. At the end of the class, students will have the opportunity to purchase review books with key pages marked for their own study at home if they wish.Math Level 2 SAT Subject Test Boot Camp Part 2 - $140Sunday, Apr. 13, 1 - 3:30 pm
Receive an eight-page equation sheet, discuss the test given for “homework” at the last section, and try yet another test. If you did not attend the session on Mar. 30th
, you may still attend this section. If you attend both, you will find yourself even more prepared for the real test.Literature SAT Subject Test Overview Part 2 - $110Saturday, Apr. 26, 1 - 3 pm

Receive study materials, discuss the test given for “homework” at the last section, and see yet another test explained. If you did not attend previous sections, you may still attend this section. If you attend all sections, your preparation will be even more thorough. During this section, a whole test will not be administered. Instead, timed portions of the test will be assigned. Those sections will then be explained.

Individual tutoring is available during free periods, lunch, and certain after-school and weekend hours. It is recommended students purchase either College Board’s Guide to the SAT or Peterson’s The Real ACT Prep Guide. In those books, they will find real tests to take at home. After students compile questions from their work at home, they can meet with Learning Center faculty to get their questions answered and receive specific handouts and other resources to improve in particular areas.

Cost: $90 per one-hour session
All sessions will be held at Parker in the College Counseling/Learning Center section of the Student Services/Administration Building. Fees will be billed to student accounts.
Please sign and submit completed registration form to the Learning Center at least ten days prior to the class start date.

Registration and Cancellation Policy

For classes and tutoring, please email Lorna Kocian at email@example.com and include the classes or sessions requiring her attendance. You can then bring a hard copy of the Registration Form and submit it to Lorna at the first class or session. Confirmation of registration will be sent by email. Fees will be billed to the student's account.
Individual tutoring sessions must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance; the session will be billed if notification of cancellation is less than 24 hours before the session. Canceling registration for a class with less than 24 hours notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee. Class registration may be cancelled up to 1 week before start date without any charge.
Make-up classes/sessions will be scheduled based the availability and discretion of the teacher; outlines and materials will be made available for the missed class or session.

About Lorna Kocian
Parker is fortunate to have engaged Lorna Kocian to teach in our test preparation program. Lorna is an experienced teacher/tutor who has been supporting San Diego students for more than ten years.
Prior to creating her own tutoring business, Lorna worked with students in the Parker Learning Center. Lorna has used her years of experience with standardized testing to create many of her own materials, which will be used in the Parker program. Her expertise has been validated by the successes of the students she has taught.
