Working at Parker
Barbara began her teaching career in 1973 as an earth science instructor in a small community in northeast Ohio. It was there that she met and married the man of her dreams, another earth science teacher. What do two earth science teachers do? They move to Wyoming, buy forty acres, design, and build their own earth-sheltered solar-passive home. That is where their daughter Skylar was born.
A change in careers for her husband brought the family to San Diego in 1990. In 1991, Barbara accepted the position of sixth grade science teacher and the rest is Parker science history. Travel is very important to the Ritchie family. The more exotic, the better! The family climbed Kilimanjaro in 1999 and went to Antarctica in 2007. When she's not busy with school, family, or her two bengal cats, Barbara is active with the San Diego Science Educators Association.
