WELCOME GRANDPARENTS!

we are grateful

for you

All Francis Parker School students' grandparents are welcome into our special grandparent community. Parker has a unique and special group who oversees the grandparent community, our Grandparents Council (GPC). The GPC was established in 2003 to engage grandparents in the life of the School and promote their support of its mission. Whether you live in or out of state, the GPC welcomes interested grandparents and surrogate grandparents to get involved, have fun and participate.

Dear Grandparent(s),

Welcome to our 17th exciting year of the Grandparents Council.

The Grandparents Council provides an opportunity for you to become an active player in the lives of your grandchildren. This will be our eighth year as members of the Grandparents Council, and it has been a wonderful experience. We feel that we have truly become part of the Parker family and have been able to share in the rich and unique educational experience that our four grandchildren have enjoyed so much. For example, the Grandparents Council members recently participated in a Webinar, Teaching During the Time of COVID, which gave us a better understanding and appreciation for the innovation and creativity that went into setting up distance learning for Parker students during these challenging times.

Another advantage of the Grandparents Council is the chance to meet and share experiences with other Parker grandparents, as well as Parker faculty and staff. We meet several times a year and have enjoyed many interesting and informative guest speakers, student presentations, and amazing field trips to places like The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. This year due to the coronavirus, we will be meeting virtually, and are committed to bringing you inspiring programs so you continue to be active members of our Parker community.

The highlight of each year for us has always been the Grandparents and Special Friends Day for the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. These special days allow us to experience in person the Parker education that means so much to our grandchildren. Although these special events may look and feel different this year, due to COVID-19, we are looking forward to creating ways to share the Parker magic with each of you.

We look forward to connecting with you this year and hope that you will become a part of the Grandparents Council. There is no homework or requirements, no fees or dues to join, but you will have many opportunities to be engaged with the Parker community, and your participation and involvement are continuously rewarded.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!
