Parker Grad Nick Allen drafted by Oakland A’s in 3rd Round of MLB Draft

Recent graduate and Parker Baseball MVP Nick Allen was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft on June 13.
Allen is a gifted shortstop and committed to play at the University of Southern California. He said in an interview with the online publication MLB Daily Dish that he now has a choice to make.
“I have a couple great decisions to make with USC or starting my career in the minor leagues. I’m just very thankful to be in this spot,” said Allen.
Standing at 5 foot 9 inches, 160 pounds, Allen batted .297 this season with two home runs, 10 doubles, nine RBIs and 17 stolen bases. In his four varsity seasons, Allen batted .373 on average, his strongest season being his junior year with a .469 batting average. Scouts cite Allen’s speed and strong defensive skills as his greatest strengths. In four varsity seasons, Allen had a fielding percentage of .962, with 22 errors in 578 chances and 75 double plays.
Allen helped lead the Parker Lancers to a Coastal League title this year with an 11-1 record. The team advanced all the way to the CIF Division 1 Championship Game, where they lost to Grossmont High School 8-3. Allen was named Baseball MVP for the 2016-17 school year by head coach David Glassey, and was also named one of Parker’s Athletes of the Year.
