Parents @ Parker

Kate Says, May 22, 2016

It is hard to believe that we have just a little over two weeks left in the 2015-16 academic year. The remaining weeks of school are filled with performances, presentations, promotions, and, of course, commencement. There is also one final offering from the Parents Association this year, the End-of-Year Appreciation Breakfast on Monday, June 6 at 8:30 a.m. in the Upper School Nicholas Commons.

We invite all Parker parents to attend the breakfast, thankful for everything you do to support Parker. This meeting will also serve as the installation of the 2016-17 PA Board of Directors.

The numbers from the Black & White Ball are in….drum roll please… The gross sales were $967,432, resulting in a net revenue of more than $725,000, all of which will go to support financial assistance and faculty professional development! This record-breaking fundraising result for the gala was achieved because of the fervent leadership of our Black & White Ball chairs, Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade and Michele Arthur, their fearless committee of more than 60 Parker parents, and everyone who supported this amazing event to help make it so successful.

A heartfelt thank you to Kathy and Sandy Purdon for hosting the Class of 2016 parent mixer yesterday. This lovely event allowed the parents of seniors to gather and reminisce on their time at Parker while their kids were off at prom.

Speaking of Kathy Purdon, I’d also like to commend her for her service as the chair of Francis Parker Board of Trustees. She has been a treasure to Parker in both her volunteerism efforts on the PA and as a Trustee.  Kathy and all the members of the Board of Trustees work tirelessly for our school to ensure its health and secure its legacy. On behalf of the PA, I thank all of the trustees for their dedication to our school, our students and our future.

The Class of 2016 parents, which happens to include our Board of Trustees chair and this year’s and past years’ gala chairs, and countless other hardworking parent volunteers, have made a remarkable impact on our school. We thank each of you for all you have done for Parker and congratulate both you and your children on your vast amount of accomplishments.

Happy Mother’s Day! Today, I am  thankful to my mother for modeling for me the importance of volunteerism and of being committed to something I believe in. I believe in Parker and so, it seems, do you.

The Black & White Ball was, as expected, absolutely spectacular! The commitment to and belief in our school was never more evident than on the Lancer Lawn last night. Whether you attended, volunteered, donated or bid, thank you for your commitment to our school and its legacy. Our gratitude for everyone’s contributions is beyond measure.

I have been honored to work side by side with the Black & White Ball chairs for over a year and am in awe of everything they accomplished. Michele Arthur and Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade, you were amazing every step of the way. Along with pulling off the largest gala yet, you also invigorated the Parker parent community by leading a committee of volunteers from every grade level and instilling the dedication to continue to help our school achieve its mission. My sincerest thank you to you and your entire committee for all you have done for Parker’s past,  present, and future.
