Week of June 7, 2015

KATE SAYS:

With the 2014-15 Francis Parker academic school year coming to a close, I would like to thank this past year's Parents Association Executive Board for their leadership, hard work and guidance. More specifically, I would like to thank the outgoing president, Mary Taylor, for her thoughtfulness, mentorship and friendship.

The school year is not even over and we are already deep into planning PA events for the 2015-16 academic year. If you are looking to get involved, feel free to contact me at pa-president@francicparker.org.

I hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you at our first Parents Association General Meeting on Monday, September 14 in the Lower School Szekely Auditorium at 8:30am.

~ Kate

MARY SAYS:

As the year winds down and the campus prepares to send off the class of 2015, I find myself reflecting on the year we’ve had and I can’t help but smile.  It has truly been my honor to work with the many parents, staff and faculty that I have had the pleasure to get to know.  I have learned so much this year!  The most important thing I have learned though is that as a leader, I am only as good as the people around me and I have been very fortunate.

I’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to my 2014-15 Board of Directors, Kate Smith, Belle Drouin, Kelle Wright, Kristie Diamond, Noelle Ludwig, Fatin Mayberry, Anne Rauch, Katherine Foster, Kristin Zeko, Scott Handley, Marilyn Tobin, Sophonya Simpson-Adams and our DADS Club Chair, Bob Manning. You all have made me look so good! Thank you for all of your hard work!

I would also like to thank past presidents, Susan Davey and Shelley Benoit. Your guidance and support were invaluable to me this year.

To every committee chair, committee member, room parent, class rep, and volunteer I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your hard work and willingness to step in whenever needed is truly appreciated.

I’d also like to thank the amazing Parker staff for being such great supporters of the Parents Association. We have enjoyed a wonderful partnership and together we have made our school and community better.

It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as your Parents Association President this year. Thank you all for your support!

I’d also like to extend and invitation to you all to join the Parents Association at our final general meeting and appreciation breakfast on Monday, June 1 at 9am in the Nicholas Commons on the Upper School campus. Thank you all for helping us to conclude an amazing year!

Week of May 24, 2015

MARY SAYS:

This past week our Parent Education Committee hosted Susie Walton at our lower school.  She is a leading expert in communication and relationships with an emphasis on family dynamics.  The topic of discussion was the joy of parenting and Susie did a great job reminding us of the joy we felt at the beginning of our parental journey and gave us tools on how to get it back if we’ve misplaced it along the way.  A big takeaway for me was the reminder that our kids pay way more attention to what we do than what we say. We may spend a lot of time talking to our kids, but what matters most are our behaviors and habits. They are watching us for cues on how they should handle the world around them (so no pressure!).

I also love the idea that while parenting can be challenging and difficult at times, there’s no reason that we can’t have fun while we do it. Susie’s recipe for joyful parenting includes three main ingredients: truth, simplicity and love.  I would encourage you all to take a minute to think about how you can incorporate these ingredients into your daily routines, throw in some humor for good measure and enjoy the ride!

I’d also like to extend and invitation to you all to join the Parents Association at our final general meeting and appreciation breakfast on Monday, June 1 at 9am in the Nicholas Commons on the Upper School campus. Thank you all for helping us to conclude an amazing year!

Week of May 17, 2015

MARY SAYS:

I am quite aware that time is always moving forward, but I find myself surprised that the year is drawing to a close.  Fortunately for us all, it’s not over yet.  We will have two great Parent Education events this week. One will be a panel discussion done by Parker alumni to help parents get a better understanding of the freshman college experience and what we as parents can do to support our students as they embark on their college journey.  This event will be held this Monday morning at 9am at the Farmer’s Bottega on Washington Street. On May 20 at 9am in the Szekely Auditorium the Parent Ed committee will also be hosting a morning with Suzie Walton. She will engage parents in an inspiring discussion about the joys and blessings of parenting.  Please join us for our final Parent Education events of the year!

I’d also like to extend and invitation to you all to join the Parents Association at our final general meeting and appreciation breakfast on Monday, June 1 at 9am in the Nicholas Commons on the Upper School campus.  Thank you all for helping us to conclude an amazing year!

Weeks of May 3 & 10, 2015

MARY SAYS:

I hope that you all will indulge me as I take a moment to gush about our Gala!  The Air and Space Museum was an amazing venue and set the tone for a truly magical evening. Everyone I spoke to at the Gala was having a great time and I found myself feeling incredibly proud and honored to be a part of this phenomenal community.

When I say thank you, I know that those words don’t accurately express the gratitude I feel for the hard work done by Gayle Nuffer, Randie Lettington and the entire Gala 2015 committee.  Everything was done well. The beautiful decorations, the great food, the awesome auction and the perfectly paced program all contributed to making this an unforgettable evening.

I want to say a special thank you to those of you who were behind the scenes masterfully handling things like the beautiful program booklet, reservations, arrivals and departures, the budget, volunteers, social media, communications, VIPs, technology, video production, photography and the many other details that made this event come to life. You are awesome!

The Parents Association is proud to support our school and we also appreciate the many Parker staff that joined with us to make the evening a success.

There was fellowship, there was dancing, and there were lots of smiles at an evening that exceeded my expectations in every way!

I truly hope that everyone who attended enjoyed it as much as I did!
