Thank you Peter Durdaller for going above and beyond to make the class creations a huge success.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Events

The PA celebrated faculty and staff from every division in a variety of ways this year. The Upper School VPs, Kristin Zeko and Christie Thoene, with the help of their grade level reps and an army of of volunteer parents, welcomed faculty and staff back after each extended school break by providing a delicious breakfast upon the return to school. Thank you to all the parents who helped with these events.

Kate Says, April 3, 2016

We hope to see many of you tomorrow, April 4,  at the Parents Association General Meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Lower School Szekely Auditorium. We will be voting to approve the PA Nominating Committee’s slate for the 2016-17 PA Board of Directors, which is listed below. Following the business portion of the meeting, we will be joined by Parker’s Athletic Director, Phil Hunt, who will discuss various athletic topics including the impact of club sports on high school sports and recruiting.

A special thanks to Parker faculty members Chris Harrington, Kevin Dunn, and Paul Barsky,  for hosting two enriching events for parents this past week.

Chris Harrington, Vassiliadis Family Chair in English, moderated the first-ever Parker Parent Discussion Group focusing on the  book The Great Gatsby, and giving parents the high school english class experience. Stay tuned for more information about the next Parker Parent Discussion Group, which we plan to hold in May.

More than 30 Parker parents, representing almost every grade level, participated in the Parker Parent Community Engagement Day that was organized by Kevin Dunn, Parker’s Community Engagement Director. Following a presentation about the vision of the school’s Community Engagement Program, parents headed out to eight different locations to serve our community on various projects. Thank you to our community partners, Gary & Mary West Center, Bayside Community Garden, Episcopal Community Service Painting Project, San Diego History Center Cleaning Project, University Center Older Adult Center, San Diego Coastkeeper Beach Clean Up In a Box, Christie’s Place, and UC San Diego Natural Reserve System for allowing us to work alongside of them for these projects.

Lower School Language & Culture Week

Thank you to the dozens of parents and other family members who provided their cultural expertise with our Lower School students and to those who provided various cultural dishes for the food festival last week. Language & Culture Week is one of the most anticipated activities and community-building experiences for many Parker families.  The extent of its impact could not be reached without the dedicated work of many parents, faculty and staff, and in particular our Language & Culture Week Chairs, Romina Kelly and Camille Dunbar.

10th Grade Faculty and Staff Appreciation Breakfast

On Monday, April 18, the upper school faculty and staff will be welcomed back to campus after Spring Break with a breakfast hosted by the 10th grade families.
