I started my teaching career in Morgantown WV, with twenty Kindergarten students. After eleven years of teaching in two schools, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio with Dr. Ted Thomas and taught second and fourth grade at Fairfax Elementary in Cleveland Heights for three years.
After the completion of Ted's Nephrology Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, we moved to San Diego, CA. I chose to be a stay-at-home Mom for 16 years after the birth of our daughters, Sydney (Duke '10) and Nicole (University of Pennsylvania '12).
During my time as a stay–at-home parent, I was able to be very active in my children's lives, with their early education and during their school years, volunteering as a room parent, serving on the Parent-Teacher Boards and keeping them involved in numerous activities.
I was also able to be very active in volunteer organizations, serving on boards all over San Diego, such as the SD Medical Auxiliary; Children's Hospital Auxilliary; Susan G. Komen; the YMCA; Links, Inc.; Jack and Jill; Books, Balls, and Bytes; the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; the National Charity League; and the Christian Fellowship Church.
Sydney graduated from Duke University in 2010 and is currently doing an Urban Fellowship in NYC. Nicole is a junior at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.
I am passionate about working at Parker because of the educational opportunities it provided for my children, and I want so much to give other children that same opportunity. Also, the people here are hardworking, intelligent, committed and caring individuals.
