Interscholastic Sports Program Information

All Middle School students participate in a daily period of PE or team sports practice. While 6th-grade students participate in a Physical Education class, 7th- and 8th-grade students can elect to take a Physical Education class or join an interscholastic sports team.

The interscholastic sports program for 7th and 8th graders adds competitive strategies to the physical education objectives, with the opportunity to join a variety of teams, including flag football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and more.

Students are placed in practice groups appropriate for their skill levels, with opportunity to advance as skill development progresses.

Selecting a Sport

Students make their selection at the beginning of each new sports season, with the guidance of PE faculty.

A student is welcome to join a sport even if without any prior experience. No matter what, they’re on the team. The coaches will divide up large teams into squads of similar experience level to foster the most growth for every player.

Practice and Games

Regardless of which sport a student chooses, team practice takes place for an hour every school day. 7th-grade practices meets at 12:30 p.m. and 8th-grade practices at 1:30 p.m.

Games are scheduled after school approximately once or twice a week (which equates to about 10 after-school or weekend games per season). Home games conclude at about 5:00 p.m. with teams returning to Parker from away games no later than 6:00 p.m.

For away games, teams travel on Parker buses and vans and under the supervision of the Parker coaching staff.  Our staff has access to cell phones and first aid supplies, and carries student emergency information with them. Students may leave away games with their parents.  However, if the parent is not present at the time the Parker team is leaving to return to school, the student must return to Parker on the team bus.

Please note that students who are unable to participate in after-school games or are unable to fulfill their commitment to their sports will be reassigned to a General Physical Education Class.

Team Schedules and Updates

Start dates for team sports is as follows:

Fall Season starts September 8, 2010
Winter Season starts November 15, 2010
Spring Season starts February 21, 2011

Parents will receive team schedules and rosters by mail and will also be invited to attend a team meeting to be conducted by the coach. Sometimes teams designate team parents to assist with communication and to provide after-game treats for the players.

At times, schedule changes are unavoidable.

Should a game or match be cancelled at the last minute, the Middle School Office will also require participating students to use our phones to notify their parents of the schedule change.

Parker requires that participants maintain a minimum grade of C in all academic and arts classes and a minimum grade of Satisfactory in all citizenship marks.
