Mary E. Lyons, Ph.D.

Mary E. Lyons, Ph.D., is president emerita and university professor of the University of San Diego. She served as president of USD from 2003 to 2015. Previously, she was president of the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota. During the Administration of Gov. Pete Wilson, she was named president of the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo becoming the first woman to hold the rank of Rear Admiral, U.S. Maritime Service. She spent 25 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve retiring as a captain. She received her B.A. in English from Sonoma State University, earned an M.A. in English from San Jose State University and graduated with a Ph.D. in rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, she serves on the board of St. Joseph Health system. Among her many honors, she was named the Most Admired CEO by San Diego Business Journal in 2015 and received the University of San Francisco Medallion for scholarly achievement and community service. At Parker, she is a member of the Grandparents Council and has a granddaughter in the Class of 2028.
Francis Parker School is a private, independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school for students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 from across San Diego County. Founded in 1912, the Lower School is located on the Mission Hills Campus with the Upper and Middle Schools on the Linda Vista Campus. Parker's mission is to inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.
