Parker Sports Wrap for the Week of Oct. 10 - 15

Girls Tennis

Our tennis team played three times last week. The Lancers started the week on Tuesday, Oct. 11, with a 5-13 loss at LJCD. Freshman, Caitlin Rowlings won two of her sets by the scores of 6-2 and 6-1. In doubles action, the teams of Samantha Clarke/Avi Anklesaria, Greer Sprague/Danica Du, and Lara Wellis/Amanda Wasserman all won one set.

On Wednesday, the Lancers tied OLP in sets won and won the match on points scored 79-75.  Olia Javidi and Caitlin Rowlings both won two of their three sets. Lara Wellis also won a critical set for the Lancers. In doubles, Avi Anklesaria/Neusha Kharrati/Greer Sprague and Samantha Clarke/Amanda Wasserman combined to each win two of their three sets.

The Lancers closed out their week on Thursday with a 11-7 victory over Pacific Ridge at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club. Olia Javidi swept her three sets, 6-0,6-4,6-0. The Lancers won eight of a possible points in doubles play. Avi Anklesaria/Caitlyn Rowlings and Samantha Clarke/Neusha Kharrati won all three of their sets. Taylor Rorstad/Greer Sprague won two of their three sets.

The Lancers will return to the court on Monday, Oct. 17, against Scripps Ranch.

The MVP for the week was Caitlin Rowlings.

Cross Country

Our cross country teams competed on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the first Coastal Cluster Meet at Mission Bay Park. Our girls team defeated Santa Fe Christian, LJCD, and Pacific Ridge by a large margin. Brooke Trossen was the first runner across the line in a time of 19:03 over the 3.1 mile course. Sophia Gamboa came in fourth in a field of fifty runners. Also finishing in the top ten were Frannie Lang (7th) and Avi Waldman (8th). The other scoring runner was Maya Pratt-Freedman (11th)

In the boys’ race, the Lancers came in second behind Bishops. The top finisher was Ben Baranski who came in sixth in a time of 18:04 over the 3.1 mile course. Other top ten finishers were Alex Olmeta (8th) and Carson Cook (9th). Finishing in the top fifteen were James Greer-Gentis and Evan Truesdale.

The Lancers will be competing in the prestigious Mt. Sac Invitational on Friday, Oct. 21

Girls Golf

Our golf team played against Bishops on Thursday, Oct. 13. Neither school had the required number of girls to make it an official match. Brooke Seay shot a three under par 33 on the Riverwalk Friars Course. Talented sophomore, Caroline Garay fired a two over par 38. Teia Wright tied her low score for the season and Sofia Carrillo was just one shot off her lowest score.  

The Lancers will play Mater Dei on Monday, Oct. 17 at Riverwalk.

Boys Sand Volleyball

Our sand team played three times this past week. On Monday, three of our teams competed in a tournament at Ocean Beach. Adam Gordon/David Barrett won their pool and finished fourth in the tournament. Adam Nussbaum/Nick Gustafson also won their pool and the brother duo of Zach Thoene/Spencer Thoene came in second in their pool.

On Tuesday, the Lancers had a non-league battle with Torrey Pines. The Falcons are currently in first place in the North League. The Lancers fought valiantly but ultimately lost. On Thursday, on a beautiful day on Ocean Beach the Lancers defeated University City 4-1 in very close games. Our No. 1 team of Adam Gordon/David Barrett are starting to play very well together and won in convincing fashion. Zach Thoene/Chris Fromm, Matt Zeko/Bijan Sagart, and Spencer Thoene/Axel Youndale all won their matches. Playing and winning for the first time as a team where AJ Nawrocki/Suraj Srinivasan.

The Lancers will play La Jolla on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and Coronado on Oct. 20 at Ocean Beach.

Girls Volleyball

Our Girls Volleyball team had a very busy week. On Monday, Oct. 10, the Lancers avenged an early season loss with a 20-25,25-16,25-16,28-26 victory over Tri-City Christian. On Wednesday, the Lancers travelled to Bishops where they lost 3-0 to the Knights. Sophia Galdamez led the team with 10 kills and Bea Thomas had 8 kills. Aeriel Sundt had 13 digs.

On Friday, the Lancers travelled to the San Diego Volleyball Club to play in the So Cal Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The Lancer opened up with a tough three game loss to Bonita Vista losing the third game 15-13. Bea Thomas had 10 kills and Maggie Oswald had 7 kills with a .500 hitting percentage. In the second match the Lancers lost to Rancho Buena Vista. Maggie Oswald was the kill leader with 12.

The Lancers will host league leading Santa Fe Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 5:15 pm.

Football

Our football team travelled to LJCD on Friday, Oct. 14, where the Lancers lost to the Torreys. The Lancers generated very little offense against the stout LJCD defense. Freshman Sam Camposeco had a 9 yard run for the Lancers. Jack Sachrison and Noah Schneider each had 2 catches for 8 yards.

Cam Miller led the defense with 9 tackles. Freshman, Russell Childs had 2 interceptions.  Noah Schneider also picked off a pass and had a fumble recovery. Kicker, Ryan Sanborn hit a 33 yard field goal and averaged 39.2 yards on his 5 punts.

The Lancers have a bye next week and will be back in action at Santa Fe Christian on Saturday, Oct. 29.
