Parker Sports Wrap for the Week of Oct. 17 -21

 Girls Tennis

Our tennis team defeated Scripps Ranch 11-7, on Monday, October 17 at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club.  In singles play, Olia Javidi swept her three sets 6-0,6-0,6-0.  Lara Wellis and Amanda Wasserman each won one set.  In doubles action, the Lancers won six of their nine sets.  Samantha Clarke/Neusha Kharrati won both of their sets and Samantha and Isabella Elia won the set they played together.  Avi Anklesaria/Taylor Rorstad won one set as did Taylor and Caitlyn Rowlings.  Finally, Danica Du/Greer Sprague won one set.

On Tuesday, the Lancers travelled to Bishops where they lost 5-12 to the Knights.  Olia Javidi again swept her three sets.  Also scoring a point was Isabella Elia in singles and Avi Anklesaria/Samantha Clarke in doubles.

The #5 seeded Lancers will open the first round of the CIF Division1 Team Championship on Tuesday, October 25, against La Costa Canyon, at the San Diego Tennis and Racquetball Club.  With a victory, the Lancers would play the winner of Pacific Ridge and #4 seed, Del Norte, on Wednesday.

Cross Country

On Friday, October 21, the Lancer Cross Country teams travelled to the prestigious Mt. Sac Invitational.  Our boys team came in first place in the Division 5 Varsity race.  Tanner Penrose came in 5th place in a time of 17:27 over the 2.93 mile course.  Also finishing in the top 15 and medaling in a field of 119 runners were Carson Cook (11), Ben Baranski (12), and James Greer-Gentis (15).  Also scoring for the Lancers was Alex Olmeta.

Our girls team finished in second place in the Division 5 Sweepstakes race.  Brooke Trossen came in second in a time of 18:19 over the 2.93 mile course.  Also finishing in the top twenty and medaling were Sophia Gamboa (12) and Frannie Lang (18). Avi Waldman and Maya Pratt-Freedman both finished in scoring positions for the Lancers.

The Lancers will return to action on Thursday, October 27, in the second Coastal League meet.

Girls Golf

Our golf team lost to Mater Dei on Monday, October 17 on the Friars Course at Riverwalk.  The Lancers low scorer was Brooke Seay who shot a one over par 37.  Brooke who is the defending county champion, currently has the lowest scoring average heading into next week’s CIF team championships.  Caroline Garay had the second lowest score for the Lancers.  Also scoring for the team were Madison Parker, Ana Russell, and Emma Buechler.

The Lancers will play the winner of the Imperial versus Eastlake match in a play-in match.  The winner of that match will advance to the CIF Team Championships on Tuesday, November 1, at the Admiral Baker Golf Course.

Girls Volleyball

Our volleyball team had two matches this past week.  On Wednesday, October 19, the Lancers lost 3-0 to Santa Fe Christian.  Aeriel Sundt led the team with 5 kills, 3 aces, and 7 digs.  Sophia Galdamez also had 5 kills and 8 digs.  Bea Thomas had 4 kills and 6 digs.  Maggie Oswald led the team in blocks with 2.

On Friday, the Lancers travelled to Pacific Ridge where they lost 3-1 to the Firebirds.  Sophia Galdamez had 12 kills and 6 digs.  Bea Thomas and Maggie Oswald each had 9 kills.  Libero, Berkley Hayes had 13 digs and was solid in serve receive.  Hannah Blood finished with 39 assists and 4 ace serves.  Danielle Gerger had 5 kills and Sammy Palakodeti had 2 ace serves.

The Lancers will return to Hillgren Court on Wednesday, October 26, against LJCD at 5:15pm.

Boys Sand Volleyball

Our sand team wrapped up their regular season with two matches last week at Ocean Beach.  On Tuesday, October 18 the Lancers lost 3-2 to La Jolla.  Every match went down to the very end.  Our #4 team of Bijan Sagart/Matt Zeko and #5 Spencer Thoene/Axel Youngdale secured the two Lancers victories.

On Thursday, the Lancers again lost 3-2, this time to  Coronado.  Our #1 team of David Barrett/Adam Gordon won their match in convincing style 21-12 and 21-17.  Our #3 team of Adam Nussbaum/Nick Gustafson lost their first game and then won the next two for the Lancers other victory.  

The Lancers will open the county team championships on Tuesday, October 25 against Torrey Pines.

Our football team had a much deserved bye this past week and will travel to Santa Fe Christian on Saturday, October 29.  Game time is 1pm.
