Parker Sports Wrap for the Week of Nov. 7-11

Girls Tennis
Three of our Lancer tennis players competed in the CIF Individual Tennis Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center last week.  Freshman, Caitlin Rowlings advanced to the CIF Singles Championships by virtue of her finishing in the top four in the Coastal League.  On Monday, November 7, Caitlin lost a very close match 7-6 and 6-4 to a strong competitor from Orange Glen.
In doubles, Avi Anklesaria/Olia Javidi were seeded 5-8 and advanced to the seed-in round on Wednesday, November 9.  The dynamic duo defeated their first challengers from Bonita Vista, 6-1,6-2.  With the victory they advanced to the round of 16 where the “knocked off” a high seed from Torrey Pines 6-3,6-3.  Avi and Olia’s season came to an end in the quarterfinals where they lost to the #2 seed from Patrick Henry.  As was typical with this team, they battled to the very end losing the second set 7-6, to wrap up their amazing season.

Cross Country
On Friday, November 11, our cross country teams both rolled to Coastal League Championships.  Our girl’s team defeated their nearest competitor, LJCD,  by a resounding 39 points.  Brooke Trossen won the 5000m race over a field of 32 runners in a time of 18:38.  Sophia Gamboa finished in third place.  Also placing in the top ten were Frannie Lang (6), Avi Waldman (7), and Maya Pratt-Freedman (10).
Our boys team defeated Bishops 35-38, low score wins.  Tanner Penrose won the race over a field of 40 runners in a time of 17:00.  Senior, Ben Baranski, came in fifth in a time of 17:22.  Also scoring for the Lancers were Evan Truesdale (7), James Greer-Gentis (10), and Alex Olmeta (12).  Carson Cook finished in 13th place.
Both of our teams will advance to the CIF Championships which will be held at Morley Field on Saturday, November 19.  They will attempt to defend the Division 5 titles they won last year.  The boys race will begin at 9am and the girls will run at 10:15am.  If you have never been to the cross country championships, it is a very exciting event.  Go Lancers!
