On Saturday, Nov. 19, our Girls and Boys Cross Country teams competed in the San Diego CIF XC Championships at Morley Field. Our girls convincingly won their third straight CIF DV championship over 10 other teams. The Lancers finished with 37 points and second place LJCD had 80, low score wins. Brooke Trossen won her third straight individual CIF title in a sizzling time of 16:40 over the 2.75 mile course. Right behind her in fourth place was Sophia Gamboa with a time of 17:43. Avi Waldman (6th), Frannie Lang (11th) and Maya Pratt-Freedman (16th) were all instrumental in the Lancers CIF title. Haley Gale and Sidney Kuerbis both finished in the top 30 in a field of 94 runners. With the victory, the Lancers advanced to the state championships.

At the SD CIF DV Championships the Lancer Boys finished in second place out of a field of 21 teams and advanced to the state championships. Tanner Penrose finished in third place in a time of 17:25 over the 3.04 mile course. Right behind him and finishing in the top fifteen were: James Greer-Gentis (8th), Evan Truesdale (11th), Carson Cook (12), and Ben Baranski (15). Also running for the Lancers were Zach Hall and Jeremy McCulloch.

On Saturday, November 26, the Lancers competed in the 2016 State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. Our girls ran hard and won silver medals finishing in second place over 24 other schools in the Division V race. Brooke Trossen came in third place with a time of 18:12 over the 5000m course, an improvement of 48 seconds over her previous best time. She also had the third fastest time of all the other San Diego runners in the other divisions. Sophia Gamboa (26th) and Frannie Lang (42th) both finished in the top 50 in the field of 204 runners. Also running for the Lancers were Avi Waldman, Maya Pratt-Freedman, Haley Gale, and Sidney Kuerbis.

In the boys’ race, the Lancers came in 12th place out of 24 teams and finished ahead of Bishops who had won the SD CIF DV Championship the previous Saturday. Tanner Penrose (56th), Carson Cook (68th), Ben Baranski (79th), and James Greer-Gentis (80th) all finished in the top 100, with personal best times, in the field of 201 runners. Also running for the Lancers were Evan Truesdale, Jeremy McCulloch and Zach Hall. Congratulation Lancers!!
