Parker Sports Wrap for the Week of March 13 - 18

Boys Lacrosse

The Lancers hosted Fallbrook on Wednesday, March 15.  The game  ended  in an exciting 7-2 victory over the Warriors. The game was dominated by our sophomores with goalie Jonathan Gordon making an impressive 13 saves for an 87% shot save rate. Sophomore attacker, Jacob Steensma, lead the Lancer’s offense with a hat-trick, followed by 2 goals from Will Murray, and 2 more from Zach Teutsch. The team battled hard, winning 35 ground balls.

The Lancers travelled to Serra High School on Friday for a tough matchup against the Conquistadors, and started off strong with senior Ben Baranski scoring in the first 15 seconds. Jacob Steensma lead the offense in goals again with 2, along with Ryan Sanborn, Zach Teutsch, and Alex Gallanis each scoring 1. Defender John Sheridan lead the team in ground balls with 8 adding to the team total of 27. The team fought hard until the end of the game but ended up with a 6-10 loss.

The Lancers face-off next at Mission Bay this Wednesday, March 22.    Report by Caroline Sanborn


Softball

Parker opened the Coastal League part of our schedule on Thursday, March 16, by facing off against La Jolla Country Day at the Kidd-Wolford softball field.  Parker led the game twice in the early innings before falling to the Torreys 22-8.  Sophomores, Niki Kim and Gabby Martin lead the offense by going 2-3 and 3-4 at the plate respectively.   Niki also had four stolen bases on the day. Freshman, Keara Jenkins had 3 RBIs and senior Captain Emily Bowden went 2-4 and the plate.  Report by Coach Jaime Ogle

The Lancers will travel to Santa Fe Christian on Monday, March 20, for a 3:30pm game against the Eagles.

Boys Golf

Our golf team played two matches last week.  On Monday, March 13, the Lancers had a respectable team score of 209 but lost to La Jolla at Riverwalk.  Josh Rodriguez was the low scorer, firing a 39 on the Friars Course.  Cameron Mullaney, Alan Tom and Nicholas Trimble all shot 42.

On Thursday, the Lancers shot a team season low of 196 to defeat Horizon Christian.  Alan Tom recorded a 37 on the Mission Trails Golf Course.  Josh Rodriguez shot 38 and right behind him was Chase Smallwood who shot a 39.  

The Lancers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21, when they host Pacific Ridge on the Friars Course at Riverwalk.

Baseball

Our baseball team is 3-2 after their two games last week. On Tuesday, March 14, the Lancers lost a close one to St. Augustines, 3-2.  Michael Campagna was 1 for 2 at the plate and drove in both runs.  Michael Yourg was 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored.  Nick Allen had 2 stolen bases.  Pitchers, Sterling Hayes, Evan Stewart, and Michael Campagna combined to allow just three hits against the potent Saints offense.

On Thursday, the Lancers defeated Chula Vista 2-0 in their final game of the Bill Whittaker Classic.  Michael Yourg provided all the offense the team needed with a solo home run.  Ethan Risse continued his dominating performance on the mound, pitching six shutout innings.

The Lancers will host Bishops on Wednesday, March 29.

Girls Lacrosse

Our girls team is 3-1 after their two games last week.  On Monday, March 13, the Lancers travelled to Valley Center and came home with a hard fought, 12-11 victory.

On Wednesday, the Lancers hosted Santana and lost 6-4 to the Sultans.

The Lancers will travel to Monte Vista on Tuesday, March 21 to play a 5:30pm game against the Monarchs.

Track

Our track team officially started their season on Saturday, March 11, when Brooke Trossen ran at the Bronco Invitational at Rancho Bernardo High school.  She came in third place in a competitive field in the 3200m in a time of 11:28.74.

On Thursday, March 16, our team competed in the first Coastal League meet at Orange Glen.  Meredith Wiggins finished in 3rd place in the 200m in a time of 13.67.  Brooke Trossen won the 800m at the wire in a time of 2:42.92.  Emma Weisenfeld came in 2nd in the 100m hurdles and 3rd in the triple jump with a distance of 30-00.  Lucy Recht finished in 5th place in the long jump with leap of 14-05.  Finally our 1600m relay team of Macy Hoang, Maya Pratt-Freedman, Frannie Lang, and Sophia Gamboa won their race in a time of 4:35.

Our boys’ team was lead by Cameron Miller who came in 2nd in the discus with a throw of 107-03 and 4th in the shot put.  In the long jump, Spencer Lafferty and Jonathan Sachrison finished in 4th and 5th respectively in a field of 29 jumpers.  Finally, Carson Cook came in 4th in the 800m in a time of 2:15.

On Saturday, the Lancers competed at the Elmer Rung Invitational.  Brooke Trossen again led the way for the Lancers winning the mile run in a time of 5:29.  Carson Cook finished in 4th in the Boys’ mile in a time of 4:48.  Sophomore, Jacqueline Ghosh came in 5th in the high jump with a jump of 4-04.

Boys Volleyball

Our volleyball team ran their record to 6-3 last week.  On Wednesday, the Lancers won a hard fought five game match over Canyon Crest.  Adam Gordon led the way with 23 kills.  Sophomore Nick Gustafson finished with 10 kills.  David Barrett led the team in digs with 24.  Chris Fromm led the team in blocks with 9.  Setter, Adam Nussbaum finished with 45 assists.

On Friday, the Lancers travelled to Orange County Championships and came home late Saturday with a third place finish.  Playing their best volleyball of the young season, the Lancers defeated several high powered teams including El Toro and Esperanza.  Adam Gordon again led the way finishing with 68 kills and a .366 hitting percentage.  Chris Fromm had 34 kills, 9 blocks, and team leading 8 service aces.  AJ Nawrocki had 12 kills and a team high .667 hitting percentage.  Bijan Sagart had 13 kills and 12 blocks.  Team leader in digs was David Barrett with 46.   Adam Nussbaum had 148 assists.

The Lancers will travel to defending CIF Open Division champion Carlsbad on Wednesday on will host defending Division 1 CIF champion, Mt. Carmel on Friday at 5:15pm.

Boys Tennis

Our tennis team had two big wins this past week.  On Tuesday, March 14, the Lancers defeated Pt. Loma, 14-4.  Gab Jinich, Ethan Nguyen, and Zakai Stone all swept their three singles sets.  In doubles, Nikhil Kaliti/Sujan Nandipati swept their sets in convincing style.

On Thursday, the Lancers defeated St. Augustine, 15-3.  Ethan Nguyen, Gab Jinich, and Noa MacDonald swept their sets.  Nikhil Kalita and Luke Tchang swepts their doubles sets.

The Lancers will travel to San Diego High on Wednesday, March 22.
