Parker Sports Wrap for the Week of March 20 - 25


On Monday, March 20, our softball team travelled to Santa Fe Christian. Parker fell behind early, but rallied back to make it a close game, before ultimately losing 11-7 to the Eagles. Niki Kim and Keara Jenkins had two hits each for the Lancers.

On Thursday, the Lancers played Helix in the opening game of the LJCD Tournament on Kidd-Wohlford Field.  Parker took the early lead when freshman Keara Jenkins hit her first high school home run, a BIG blast over the center field fence. A veteran Helix team would pull away as the game went on and they were victorious by a 16-3 score.

On a rare Saturday morning the Lady Lancers defeated Montgomery 11-5 on our home diamond.  Senior Captain Camryn Miyahira led the offense with 4 RBIs and 2 hits. Freshman Keara Jenkins had 3 RBIs and 2 hits. Three sophomores, Leena Mayberry, Niki Kim, and Gabby Martin each collected two hits.   Freshman Katie Austin pitched a complete game for the Lancers.

Coastal league play continues with games at Bishops on Tuesday and home against Horizon on Thursday this week.

2017 Girls Softball Team

Boys Lacrosse

The Lancers had a very successful week, starting off on Wednesday, March 22, when they travelled down to Mission Bay to face-off against the Buccaneers.  Jacob Steensma lead the offense in goals, making 3, followed by Will Murray with 2, Ryan Sanborn with 2, Jakob Osland with 1, and Benjamin Baranski with 1 goal as well as 4 assists. The offense controlled the game taking 49 shots in total. The Lancers left the game with an impressive 9-1 victory.

The Lancers would face-off again on Friday against University City, in another high scoring game. The Lancers offense maintained control of the game the entire first half, heading into halftime up 6-0, and would end the game with a 12-5 victory over the Centurions. Ryan Sanborn had 4 consecutive goals in the 4th period, all assisted by Benjamin Baranski, who had 3 goals himself in the game. Jacob Steensma would score 2 more for the Lancers, as well as Will Murray with 1, Alex Gallanis with 1, and Zach Teutsch with 1. John Sheridan helped the Lancers maintain control of the game, winning 12 ground balls, to add to the team total of 32. The hard fought win puts the Lancers at 3-2 for the season.

The team faces off next week Tuesday, March 28, at Helix at 7pm.  On Saturday, the team will play in Parker’s first annual Family Day. Both the Boys and Girl Lacrosse team will play that day.  We encourage everyone to come out and watch. The Boys face-off against Hilltop at 12 noon and our Girls will play Pacific Ridge at 2pm.  (Report by Caroline Sanborn)

Boys Volleyball

Our Boys’ Volleyball team is 6-5 after their two matches last week.  On Wednesday, March 23, the Lancers travelled to Carlsbad High, the defending Open Division CIF Champions, where they lost an exciting five game match.  The Lancer’s ranks were depleted by injury and illness, but they still managed to put up a valiant fight.  Adam Gordon led the way with 20 kills and 14 digs.  Chris Fromm finished with 13 kills and 2 ace serves.  Middle blocker, Bijan Sagart had 8 kills and a team leading 3 blocks.  David Barrett had 17 digs and 3 ace serves. Finally, setter, Spencer Thoene finished with 48 assists.

On Friday, the Lancers lost 3-1 to defending CIF Division 1 Champion, Mt. Carmel.  Middle blockers, Zach Thoene and Bijan Sagart lead the way with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Zach and Chris Fromm each had 3 blocks.  David Barrett had 28 digs and had no errors in 16 service attempts.  The Lancers had their highest serving percentage and passing percentage on the young season.

The Lancers will host Cathedral on Wednesday, March 29, at 5:15pm and St. Augustine on Friday, at 5:15pm.

Our baseball team played no games this past week and will host Bishops, Wednesday, March 29, at 6:30pm on Greenberg Field.

Girls Sand Volleyball

Sand Volleyball lost a tough one Thursday, March 23 to OLP.  Maggie Oswald and Hannah Blood got the Lancers their first match victory, winning in the first two sets, 21-16 and 21-14. We fell short with our C team (Callie Keating and Dina Wilson) losing 17-21 and 10-21; and our A team (Bea Thomas and Aeriel Sundt)  losing a close one as they battled through 3 games 18-21, 21-19, and 13-15.  (Report by Coach Heather Dunn)
Girls Sand Volleyball Team


Our track team competed at the Calvin Small Schools Invitational on Saturday, March 25.  Macy Hoang came in 4th in the 400m in a time of 1:05.27. Lucy Recht came in 7th in the FR/SO long jump with a leap of 13’5”.  Maya Pratt-Freedman finished in 6th in the FR/SO 800m in a time of 2:41.

In the Boys’ 800m, Zachary Hall came in 4th in a time of 2:12.26.  Carson Cook won the 1600m with a time of 4:42.67.  In the FR/SO 1600m Alex Olmeta finished in 6th in a time of 5:14.  In the field events, Cameron Miller came in 8th in the discus with a throw of 101-09.  Spencer Lafferty finished in 5th in the FR/SO long jump with a distance of 17-08.

Our teams will compete again on Saturday, April 1, at the Willie Banks Invitational at Oceanside High School.

Boys and Girls Track Teams

Boys Golf

Our golf team competed two times last week.  On Tuesday, March 21, the Lancers shot 187, their lowest team score of the year by nine strokes to defeat Pacific Ridge.  Alan Tom and Chase Smallwood both shot even par 36 to pace the Lancers.  Right behind them were Josh Rodriguez and Nicholas Trimble who both shot 38.  Calvin Woods shot 39, to get five Lancers under 40 for the first time this year.

On Thursday, the Lancers teed off against Santa Fe Christian on the Friars Course at Riverwalk.  Nicholas Trimble was the Lancer low scorer with a two over par 38.  Right behind him with a 39 were Josh Rodriguez and Chase Smallwood with a 40.

The Lancers will get a rematch with Santa Fe Christian on Tuesday, March 28, when they travel to Morgan Run Country Club and play the Eagles.

Boys Tennis and Girls LAX do not have updated results at the writing of this sports wrap.  Tennis host Santa Fe Christian on Monday at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club on Monday, March 27 and Girls Lax will host Del Lago Academy on Tuesday, March 28, at 6:30pm on Lauer Field.
