Parker Sports Wrap 9/18 - 9/24

Cross Country -
Both the boys and girls teams competed at the South Bay Invitational Meet on Friday.  

The boys team placed 16th out of the 26 teams competing.  Senior Tanner Penrose (17:38), Junior Alex Olmeta (18:14), and Senior Jeremy McCollough (18:29) were the team’s top 3 finishers.  In the Frosh/Soph heat, Freshman Spencer Ruff finished in 6th place out of 216 runners with a time of 18:36.

The girls team placed 14th out of the 23 teams competing.  Senior Avi Waldman (16:58), Senior Haley Gale (17:41), and freshman Vivian Benishek (19:06) were the team’s top 3 finishers.  Avi Waldman finished 17th out of the 157 runners.


Boys Sand Volleyball -
Our Sand Volleyball team ran their record to 2-0 with a 3-2 victory over La Jolla.  Our #1 doubles team of David Barrett/Nick Gustafson won their match 22-20 and 21-15. Axel Youngdale and Aries Zander won their match 21-12 and 21-9. The team of Chris Fromm and Mark Tankersley won their match 21-14 and 21-8.

The Lancers will be back in action Wednesday, September 27, when they play Saints at Ocean Beach.

Girl’s Golf -
The Girl’s Golf team defeated Valhalla in a non-league dual match on Wednesday.  It was their first time all season playing with a full team. Caroline Garay, Emma Buechler, and Sofia Carrillo shot the team’s 3 lowest scores.  Both Sofia Carrillo and Cate Hassler their personal best scores.

Caroline Garay was the medalist for the match with a 9 hole score of 37.  This was the 4th match this season where she has posted the lowest score.

Girl’s Volleyball -
On Wednesday, the Girl’s volleyball team lost to Santa Fe Christian in 3 games, 23-25, 13-25, 12-25.  Freshman Rio Lacey provided one of the highlights of the match, recording her first kill.

The team rebounded nicely on Thursday with a 4 game victory over Classical Academy, 25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17.  Arrington Jones had 11 kills and Hannah Blood recorded an .800 hitting percentage to lead the offense, while Berkley Hayes led the defense with 13 digs.


Girl’s Tennis -
Our Girl’s tennis team opened last week winning their first two matches, notching a 14-4 victory over the San Diego Jewish Academy, followed by a 13-5 win over Serra.  They opened league play last Thursday and fell to La Jolla Country Day by a score of 3-15. We beat SDJA 14-4 on Monday.  On Wednesday we beat Serra HS 13-5.  

Next week, you can catch the Lancers in action twice, as they will play matches against both Vincent Memorial and Bishops.


Football -
The football team lost 42-11 to La Jolla Country Day last Friday, dropping their overall record to 0-4.  

Junior Ryan Sanborn led the Lancer’s offense with 43 yards rushing and 197 yards passing, while junior Jonathan Gordon caught 7 passes for 93 yards. Sophomore Sam Camposeco led the team on defense with 20 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss.

The lancers are back in action this coming Friday, September 29th, when they travel to play San Ysidro high school.  Kickoff is at 7pm.
