Parker Sports Wrap 12/11 - 12/17

Girls Soccer -
It was a banner week for the Girls Soccer team, as they emerged victorious in all 4 of their matches, earning them the championship in the Gold division of the University City Holiday Jubiliee Championship.

Wins over Santa Fe Christian, Coronado, and Montgomery set the Lancers up for a Championship showdown on Saturday with Olympian High School, in which they came away with the 1-0 victory.  Senior Rebecca Siegler led the Lancer offense with 5 goals and 5 assists during the week of play.  Freshman Hannah Mohedin and Junior Lily Hunt also chipped in with 2 goals a piece.  Freshman Goalkeeper Maia Carlson made 28 saves in the 4 games during the week, including 12 saves in the Championship game to preserve the shutout victory.

This week the Lancers lone contest is on Thursday, 12/21, when they travel to San Dieguito High School.  The game starts at 6pm.

Boys Soccer -
The Boys Soccer team fell in their only match of last week, losing to Serra High School by a score of 2-1.  

Despite the final result, the Lancers showed great improvement throughout the contest, narrowly missing on several scoring chances.  The highlight of the match came when Anush Birdjandi scored the lone Lancer goal off of a Ryan Watson assist.

You can see the Lancers play twice next week, as they will travel to Crawford High School on Tuesday, 12/19 for a 6pm match, followed by a 4:30 match on Thursday 12/21 at Valhalla High School

Girls Basketball -
Girls Basketball split their pair of games last week, falling on Tuesday to San Diego High School 61-43, and then bouncing back nicely for a 50-48 win over Otay Ranch on Saturday..

Senior Giselle Alota and Freshman Jazmin Brooks led the Lancers offense vs Otay Ranch, notching 21 and 15 points respectively, while Seniors Jula Harrington and Sofia Carrillo each added over 10 rebounds. Against San Diego, Freshman Jayleah Raymond had 10 points on 63% shooting from the floor.

They have a busy schedule next week, as they will be in action on Monday vs Canyon Crest Academy, Tuesday vs Eastlake High School, and Wednesday vs Chula Vista High School.  All games are played at Coronado High School as they are part of the Coronado Tournament.

Boys Basketball -
The Lancers won their first and only game of the week as they exploded to defeat Liberty Charter by a score of 85-38 on Tuesday night.

The Lancer offense was a balanced attack led by Freshman Daryl Sledge, who notched 21 points, including a perfect 3 point shoot performance, going 5 for 5 from behind the arc.  Juniors JJ Stinger and Jacob Jovien also made significant contributions each pouring in 17 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Miles Williams led the defense with 10 steals while also dishing out 11 assists.

While the Lancers do not play again this week, you can catch them in action over the Holiday Break as they will play in the Tri City Christian tournament at Tri City Christian High School.  Their games are on December 27th, 28th, and 29th.

Surfing -
The surf team competed in a Scholastic Surf Series Surf Contest on Saturday at Oceanside Harbor, South Jetty.  Maddy Giek and Leo Baez competed in the Women's and Men's Long Board divisions.  This was both of their first times competing in surfing.

Both finished in 1st and 2nd place throughout the contest.  Leo made it to the Semi-Finals and Maddy made it to the Finals, where she took 3rd Place in Women's Long Board.  Congratulations to both Maddy and Leo for their excellent surfing!
