Parker Sports Wrap 1/22 - 1/28

Girls Soccer -
The Girls Soccer team went 2-0 on the week, keeping them in a tie for 2nd place in the Coastal League.  

On Tuesday, they traveled to Pacific Ridge and earned a 2-1 victory.  Senior Lakme Caceres and Junior Jeyan Kirtay netted the Lancer goals, with the lone assist coming from Sophomore Sarah Effress.

They followed up Tuesday’s performance with a 3-0 shutout win at home over Santa Fe Christian on Thursday.  Highlights from Thursday’s victory included goals from Kirtay, along with fellow junior Maya Pratt-Freedman and freshman Hannah Mohedin, as well as Freshman goalkeepers Makenna Golding and Erin Keith combining for the shutout.  

The Lancers are in action twice next week, as they travel to take on Bishop's on Tuesday 1/30 at 3:15pm, before hosting Cathedral Catholic on Wednesday 1/31 at 6:00pm.

Boys Soccer -
The Boys Soccer team had their 3rd winning week in a row, defeating Pacific Ridge at home on Tuesday 4-2, and then playing Santa Fe Christian to a 2-2 draw on Thursday afternoon.  They remained undefeated in Coastal League play and are tied for 1st place in the conference.  

In Tuesday’s game, Ryan Watson led the way, netting 2 goals, while Henry Diamond Pott and Aidan Scudder each added one a piece. Then on Thursday, both Ryan Watson and Laurent Cotter each had a goal to lead the Lancer offense.

Next week, the Lancers play twice at home, hosting Bishop's at 6:00pm on Tuesday night, and then hosting fellow 1st place Orange Glen High School at 6:30pm on Friday.

Girls Basketball -
The Girls Basketball had a very successful week, going 2-0, as they defeated O’Farrell Charter School 81-18 on Wednesday afternoon, and then earned a hard fought victory over Castle Park High School on Friday night by a score of 45-36.

In Wednesday’s victory, Senior Giselle Alota led the way as she recorded a triple double, with 24 points, 10 assists and 16 steals.  Freshmen Jazmin Brooks and Jayleah Raymond each pitched in 16 and 13 points respectively.  On Friday, Alota led the Lancers again in scoring with 22 points, while Senior Jula Harrington grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Lancers pull away in the 4th quarter.

This week, you can catch the Lancers in action twice as they hit the road, travelling to Bishop’s on Wednesday 1/31 at 5:30pm, and then to take on Central Union High School on Saturday at 3:15pm.  Saturday’s game takes place at Bonita Vista High School.

Boys Basketball -
The Boys basketball played twice this week. After falling to Foothills Christian High School on Wednesday afternoon, they rallied to beat Eastlake High School by a score of 55 - 42  

In Wednesday’s game vs Foothills Christian, Junior Matt Bender led the Lancers with 10 points and 6 rebounds.  In Friday’s game, Freshman Daryl Sledge led the Lancers in scoring, pouring in 17 points, including 5 three-pointers. Kimo Ferrari and Matt Bender each grabbed 9 rebounds to help secure the Lancer victory.

The Lancer’s will be in action three times next week, as they travel to Bishop’s on Wednesday 1/31  at 7pm.  They will then play at home twice, hosting Orange Glen at 7:30pm on Friday 2/2 and Torrey Pines at 4pm on Saturday 2/3

Squash -
Over the weekend of January 20-21, two Parker squash teams traveled to South Pasadena to compete in a multi-school competition at the Arroyo Seco Racquet Club.

A Division Results
On Saturday, the A Division team (Pratt Koppolu, Zach Hall, Nick Miller, Subba Duvuuru and Jack Haynes) played matches against Arroyo Seco, Irvine, Cate and Episcopal of Los Angeles.  Parker defeated Cate (5-0) and Episcopal (5-0), lost to Irvine (4-1) and Arroyo Seco (5-0).  Individually, Koppolu, playing at the #1 position, went 3-1, Hall, at #2, went 2-2; Miller at #3, went 2-2 (with his two losses resulting from morning forfeits); Duvuuru, at #4, went 2-2; and Haynes, at #5, went 2-2.

B Division Results
The Parker B Division team competed on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.   Parker sent four players for B Division play:  Jeremy Lin, Garret Hoff, Toby Sacamay and Bella Sahota.  All four players made great strides and demonstrated real improvement from the first match of the day to the last match in the early afternoon.

There were some significant firsts as well - Hoff and Sacamay recorded their first Parker match wins representing the School.

Looking Ahead…
The final matches of the 2017-2018 season are scheduled for February 3 and February 4, with competition taking place at the San Diego Squash Club located in nearby Sorrento Valley.  These matches will determine the SoCal team and individual champions, with teams participating from as far north as Santa Barbara.
