Amb. Theodor "Ted" Gildred Jr. '50

Ted was the second awardee. He is a leader in the banking industry, diplomat, successful developer and an accomplished aviator. Ted was Parker's 2006 Commencement Speaker.
Mr. Gildred was born in Mexico. He graduated from Stanford University (B.A., 1959) and received certificates in 1960 from Sorbonne University in Paris, France, and the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He served in the United States Army, 1955-1959, and in the United States Air Force Reserve, 1959-1969. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to Argentina from 1986-1989 under both the Reagan and Bush Administrations.

The Gildred family are also philanthropists in San Diego and around the world helping to build international relations. Mr. Gildred was instrumental in founding the Institute of the Americas at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He also serves on the Board of Directors of North American Airlines and the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at UCSD. 

Mr. Gildred continues to travel extensively as president of the InterAmericana Group, a consulting firm specializing in the development of business opportunities throughout the Americas.
He is also Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Lomas Santa Fe Group, a successful network of privately held real estate holding and development companies. Mr. Gildred and his father (Sr.) were inducted into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in 2010.
