Parker Senior Bryan Shaw Receives CIF Boys Spirit of Sport Award
Congratulations to Parker senior Bryan Shaw for being honored with the CIF Boys Spirit of Sport Award for San Diego County. Bryan, Class of 2018, was one of 20 other students named across California.
The CIF Spirit of Sport Award recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated the 16 principles of Pursuing Victory with Honor, are active in school and community service, and exhibit leadership qualities.
Bryan, who has played football at Parker since his freshman year, was nominated by his coaches.
“Bryan did an outstanding job on our team this year,” said Matt Morrison, Head Football Coach. “In addition to serving as an anchor on both our offensive and defensive line, he was a tremendous role model for his teammates.”
This was Morrison’s first season as Head Football Coach at Parker. Starting a competitive season is never easy as a new coach, but Morrison credits Bryan’s leadership for helping the team along this year.
“When you have a team as young as the one that we had this year, it is a much easier transition and adjustment for the younger players when they have someone who models the traits that you are looking for. Bryan set a great example of how to prepare, practice, and compete, and as a result, helped to elevate the level of his teammates. We will miss him a ton next year, but we are extremely proud of everything that he has accomplished, both on and off the field,” said Morrison.
Bryan says he will miss his time with the Lancers, a team he considers his family more than anything else.
