New Art Gallery - Words with Wings: Poetry & Prints

The James Alan Rose Art Gallery is hosting a new exhibit called “Words with Wings: Poetry & Prints.” The exhibit is on display now until February 16 and features artwork by various printmakers, including Parker students, dedicated to celebrating the printed word in poetry and artist books. The exhibition was curated in conjunction with Parker’s Poetry Week taking place February 5 to 9, 2018. Poetry Week is a week-long celebration of poetry and the art of self-expression and creativity through language. Former two-time United States Poet Laureate (2001-03) Billy Collins will join Parker Middle and Upper students for a poetry salon on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Most of the imagery in the gallery contains poetry or written word, including a few broadsides of Billy Collins poems by Carolee Campbell. There is also a variety of Parker student-made books inspired by poems from Melanie Taylor’s Upper School 2D Art class. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the gallery from 5:30 to 7 pm. Artists will be available to meet the community and talk about what inspired their work.

The Rose Gallery is open Monday through Friday during the school year from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm except for holidays and school breaks. To learn more about “Words with Wings: Poetry & Prints, visit:
