Upper School Theatre Students Sweep the Competition at Dramafest

Upper School theatre students sweep the competition at the San Diego High School Theatre Festival on Saturday, Feb. 10 held at Grossmont College. The festival, hosted by the San Diego Theatre Educators Alliance (SDTEA), brings together high schools from all over San Diego County to participate in a monologue and scene competition.

“Parker virtually swept the awards,” said Elise Marinkovich, Middle and Upper School theater teacher, in an email. “I am overwhelmed and so proud of the students.”

In the monologue competition Eleni Stavros, Class of 2021, won First Place; Kyrah Panfil, Class of 2021, won Second Place; and Gia Marino, Class of 2020, took Third Place.

For the scene competition: Caleb Haberman, Class of 2020, and Madeleine Considine, Class of 2021, took First Place; and Jack Morrill, Class of 2019, and Vaughn Melbourn, Class of 2019, took Second Place.

In an email to the School, Carrin Edwards, Secretary and Student Board Rep to SDTEA, said “Francis Parker Theatre represented [the School] in a successful and positive manner at Dramafest. Your students are one-of-a-kind.”

The SDTEA promotes and advocates for quality theatre education throughout San Diego County and encourages educational excellence through an environment that embraces an atmosphere of diversity and fosters cooperation with other established arts organizations.
