Senior Ben Krongard Named CIF Spirit of Sport State Award Winner

Ben Krongard, Class of 2018, was named the CIF Spirit of Sport State Award winner for the 2017-18 winter season. He represents San Diego County and will be honored alongside other award winners in April at a special dinner in San Jose.

Ben was captain of the boys soccer team and played goalkeeper, as well as multiple field positions. After finishing his final season with the team earlier this month, Ben said he is honored to be selected for the award.

“I always hope to inspire my teammates and be a positive role model for the younger kids on the team, and I hope that by receiving this award I can show them that hard work, respect, and a positive attitude will be rewarded in the long run,” said Ben. “I am incredibly grateful to my coaches, Jarrad, Amani, Noel, and Richie, who have helped develop me into the soccer player and person I am, and to my mom and Dad for their constant support.”

Boys Soccer Coach Jarrad Phillips said Ben “embodies the spirit of sport each and every day.”

“He is an incredible teammate who is willing to make sacrifices for his team while also providing consistent leadership and encouragement. The coaching staff is so thankful to have him as part of our program,” said Coach Phillips.

The CIF Spirit of Sport Award recognizes student-athletes who live the ideals of “pursuing victory with honor.” Winners are chosen based on exemplary sportsmanship, school and community service, and leadership. One male and one female athlete are chosen from each of the CIF’s 10 division from across the state.
