Boys Basketball Defeats Christian to Earn Division 2 Championship

The Boys Basketball team defeated Christian High School 69-54 on Saturday night, earning them the CIF San Diego Section Division 2 Championship.
The Lancers raced out of the gates, starting the game on a 13-2 run, en route to a 24-11 lead after the first quarter. They were sparked by freshman guard Daryl Sledge, who hit three 3-pointers and scored all 13 of his points in the opening period.
After taking a 14-point lead into the halftime locker room, Christian battled back early in the second half, narrowing their deficit as close as 9 points, but the Lancers responded, and ultimately pushed their lead to 16 points after sophomore guard Miles Williams hit a 3-pointer as the 3rd quarter buzzer sounded.
Junior forward Matt Bender dominated the interior and led the Lancers offensively, posting his third double-double of the playoffs, as he scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kimo Ferrari added 20 points of his own, while also dishing out eight assists.
Bender was extremely excited and proud of his teammates after the game, saying, "All of the work that we put in every day all came down to this game, and there's not a better feeling. We all worked hard, we believed in ourselves, and we came here and got it done."
The Lancers were road warriors throughout their playoff run, winning four straight games away from home, as they have defeated the #1, #2, #5, and #8 seeds on their way to the title.
Saturday's victory means their season will continue and they will play on into the CIF State Tournament. The Lancers will take on the Covina Colts at home this Wednesday, March 7 at 7 pm.
