No previous programming experience necessary.
For this class we will be creating our programs directly in an Internet Browser rather than using the Scratch Application. We recommend that you check out your ability to access the Scratch website on your child’s computer or device by going to scratch.mit.edu and select ”Create” from the upper tabs. We recommend the same device be used for the class’s virtual video conference so the EngineeringFor Kids instructor can view your child’s program to provide the best assistance.
Engineering For Kids programs are STEM.org Accredited, Cognia Certified, AND they align with National and State Standards. Be confident that you're signing your child up for a program that is recognized for creating the very best STEM programs for students.

The World of Pokemon! (VIRTUAL)
Instructors: Joseph Kurz
Grade Level: For rising Grade 1-Grade 5 students
Adult Support: 0-1, No to minimal adult supervision and support required
Course Description
The World of Pokemon will introduce students to Pokemon through a hands-on study of the creatures and their unique world. Students will take the first-hand position of artists, creating their own pokedex to research a variety of creatures of their own choosing, depict them, and study their natural environments.
Students will learn to play the card game, study strategy, and compete against their peers. They will also selectively view and analyze canonical episodes of the original television program to discuss the themes of teamwork and friendship that inform the series. The course will culminate in students providing a concise report of their research findings to practice the basics of effective presentation skills.
In 1994 the Nintendo Corporation created a simple game about magical creatures that you could collect on your gameboy and trade with your friends. Little did they know that these “pocket monsters” would take the world by storm and that 26 years later, Pokemon would become a household term. Yet what are these strange little creatures? Why do people play Pokemon cards or watch an international celebrity voice Pikachu in films? What is the world of Pokemon all about?
Whether your child is merely curious about Pokemon or considers themselves a poke-expert, this course is for them.
